- For P.G. Dip. Archives & Documentation Management and B. L. I. Sc. courses Field Visit and Observation Tours to various Archives and Library and Information Centres in the States of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and at the national were organised.

- For the Fresher of  U.G / PG students,  M.Phil. and Ph.D. Scholars of Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed  University,  awareness and orientation programmes were conducted in the beginning of the academic year and the advanced library literacy /information literacy programmes on use of information sources and service including    e-resources were given periodically to help and assist in their advanced academic work/assignments for senior students and for scholars.

• Initiated and established library automation and paved the way for several modernisation initiatives and computerised the circulation of Books with On-line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) search facility in the library.

• Developing  Computerised full-text database of publications  published by GRI staff and building  up of Institutional Repositories for the Institute published sources

• Developing Digital Library Collection with eBooks, eJournals and other e-resources subscribed and through OAI, and also by digitization, computerization and modernization of the library resources, functions and services.

• With the help of Open Source Software and the SOUL (SOftware for University Libraries) software developed by UGC-INFLIBNET Centre, the GRI Library aims to develop database in Rural Development as a nodal centre for Information Resource Sharing and Networking  of  University Libraries, and Research and Development Institutions.
