One month Study Tour in the U.K

With the permission of the Authorities of GRU, Gandhigram, and under the sponsorship of Mr. Kevan Paul Bundell, former employee of the Christian Aid based in London and his wife Dr. Vasu Devi Reddy, Professor and Head, Dept. of Psychology, Portsmouth University, South Hampton, U.K, I visited the U.K. on one month study tour from 15-5-2005 to 16-2005 to study the work of Christian Aid, the leading UK relief and Development Charity and visit the University of Portsmouth to learn about the U.K.University Education system  and Teaching methods and a study of services for the elderly as provided in UK with the assistance of Hampshire Social Services, Help the Aged ( a national NGO/ Charity) and local private providers of services for the elderly.

I visited Oakridge House, Jefferson Road, Basingstoke, Hants RG21 5qs UK, which is a residential home for the elderly mentally infirm people with nearly three acres of land around the home. The home is managed by a Unit Manager who has a management team to provide a twenty four hour on call service.

.Also, I visited Hampshire County Council, Nursing Homes for Older People. Day to day activities reflect what the residents want and all the residents are encouraged to have a say in the way their home is run and what happens there.

There are over 5000,000 older people in the UK living in residential homes, nursing homes or NHS long stay wards or homes.
