v On the basis of satellite and air craft based Remote sensing data interpretation of geological structures in over 1 lakh sq.km area and intensive field mapping, developed an unique “intrabasinal stress and a rheid flow of shales model” to explain the intense peribasinal and central idiomorphic deformations in Vindhyan Basin of Rajasthan
v Demonstrated a rotational deformation model for the Deccan volcanics of Southern Sourashtra on the basis of Remote Sensing revealed fractures and explained the deformation tectonics of Deccan volcanics
v Brought out the migratory melodrama of all West and North Indian rivers and developed a model on the pleistocene – tectonics of Western India.
v As the investigator in ISRO – GSI collaborative project, conducted Airborne multispectral / thermal flights over the mineralized belts of Rajasthan and optimized the spectral ranges for lithological and metallogenic mapping
v Evolved a course module on Geological Remote Sensing for M.Tech Programme
v Prepared lineament map of South India on 1:1 million scale using Indian Remote Sensing satellite data
v Interpreted IRS satellite data and brought out newer information on the Fluvial Geomorphology and coastal geomorphology of Tamil Nadu.
v Carried out Remote Sensing based integrated studies for groundwater targeting in Ramanathapuram District.
v Prepared Drinking Water Resources maps on 1:250,000 scale for Salem, North Arcot & Ramanathapuram Districts from Remote Sensing (as a part of National Project of NRSA)
v Organised UNESCO Sponsored course on Cyclone Disaster Management for South East Asian participants.
1. Developed a directory showing the optimised spectral ranges for discriminating various rock types, from future satellite data through spectro radiometric measurments.
2. Developed linear models between rock chemistry and satellite multiband data and optimised the satellite data for geochemical mapping.
3. Brought out newer concepts on Thermal Remote Sensing in Geology through ground based kinetic temperature surveys in Precambrian rocks of Trichy region,
4. Optimized the time for satellite Data acquisition for Geological mapping through round the clock day time measurements of spectral reflectance under different sun elevation and Azimuths.
5. Developed a first time model that the Precambrian fold belts of South India were formed only by two episodes of deformation through the interpretation of Tectonic features from IRS satellite data.
6. Carried out tectonic studies and brought out models on the origin of domes and basins in South India.
7. Developed GIS Models on the fracture fabric and its control over magmatism, metallogeny, ground water, seismicity etc. of South India.
8. Similarly, demonstrated a new methodology to map the geo thermal targets through Remote Sensing derived geological and geomorphological parameters.
9. Developed new methods of 3D visualization of Subsurface Geology using Geophysical data
è Developed a first time ever conceived model on the Active Tectonics of South India which has opened many newer vistas for futurw studies.
è Developed newer concepts on how neotectonic and active tectonic windows can be identified and mapped in shield areas using Remote Sensing and also GIS visualisations
è Brought out newer ideas and models on the impact of active tectonics over fluvial, coastal and hydrological systems of south India.
è Brought out the first time model on the life history of Cauvery that
v The river Cauvery has flowed in between Hogenekkal and Chennai during 500,000 - 3,000 years before present (B.P.)
v Flowed via present day Ponnaiyar during 2,700 - 2,300 years
v Reached Pudukkottai Vellar around 2,300 years (B.P) and
v Finally reached the Coleroon stage around 750 years from now though a process of anticlockwise rotational migration
v This study has provided Packages of newer ideas on mineral resources, water resources, interbasin water transfer, recharge, palaeo flood cycle, Palaeo climate, past sea levels, Archaeology, Evolution of Civilisation etc.
è Interpreted IRS satellite images of Tamil Nadu coast and developed models and newer information on
v Land - ocean interactive processes
v Past sea level curves from geomorphological data
v Comprehensive picture on coastal hazards.
è Brought out varied models on such modern Geological processes and their control over riverine, Coastal and hydrological ecosystems and Natural disasters.
è Developed water quantity forecasting models from satellite infrared data for tanks and reservoirs.
è Developed Remote Sensing and GIS Integrated Models for Watershed - wise run off estimation.
è Carried out Remote Sensing studies and demonstrated the concept of identifying the areas prone for soil erosion, their functional geo-parameters and remedial land management models to arrest the silt in the catchments of various river basins / regulators in Peranai, Kundah, Vaigai catchments etc.,
è Carried out spectro radiometric surveys over the polluted water bodies and developed linear model between water quality and spectral data
v This will help in forecasting the water quality directly from satellite data with few additional studies.
è Conceived new genetic ideas on how ground water target areas can be identified using ARC / INFO GIS
v This has been successfully demonstrated by conducting holistic studies in Madurai, Dindigul, Theni and Karur districts.
è Using Remote Sensing and GIS, developed a new technique of identifying ground water resources controlled by, top soil, fractures, weathered zone, slope, land use etc. through GRAM GIS for Vellar basin and through ARC / INFO GIS for Madurai, Dindigul, Theni and Karur districts.
è Developed models on Time transgressive tectonics and ground water systems of Tamilnadu.
è Carried out indepth studies using Remote Sensing, GIS and applied probaballisitic statistics
to develop land management models to improve the efficiency of natural recharge of
Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu.
v this is a first time study in the aspects and concepts of natural recharge
è Carried out Remote Sensing based integrated terrain analysis and demonstrated
certain newer concepts of site selection and mechanism detection for artificial
recharge such as sites suitable for flooding, furrowing, pitting, percolation
ponding, induced recharging etc for, Madurai, Dindigul,Theni, Karur, Pudukottai
and parts of Tiruchirappalli district of Central Tamil Nadu
è Developed new ideas and models for detecting water bearing and water barren fractures and mechanisms of fracture recharge for different parts of Tamil nadu.
è Demonstrated newer concepts of Surface and Ground Water budgeting and detection of water surplus and water deficit water sheds of Ayyar basin
v This is again a first time study towards water transfer from watershed to watershed.
è Developed a first time GIS based 3D Visualisation models on ground water systems.
è Developed new techniques of Seismotectonic Mapping using Remote Sensing, 3D Visualization of geophysical and groundwater data and integrated geomorphological techniques and thus prepared seismotectonic map for South India.
è A new method of GIS based slope mapping was developed for Landslide hazard zonation and thus Landslide Hazard Zonation maps were prepared for the Landslides of Southern Part of Nilgiri Mountains
è Carried out detailed studies on Tsunami Disaster Assessment for Nagapattinam Coast using micro wave data of European satellite, P6 PAN merged data of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite and specially flown digital ortho photo data sets and, GIS data bases and Tsunami disaster atlas was also prepared.
In addition, on the basis of Tsunami – Land system interface studies, Tsunami mitigation strategies were also evolved for Tamil Nadu Coast.
è Flood inundation mapping and harvesting strategies were developed after 2004 and 2005 Floods for Tamil Nadu.
è Developed a First time Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) for Pudukottai District for sustainable development.
9.5 1.4.2009 - Till date As Vice-Chancellor, Gandhigram Rural Institute-Deemed University, (GRI-DU), Tamil Nadu
Ø Evolved an innovative concept of restructuring the 23 departments and 10 centres of GRI-DU in to schools – depts. – centres – cells, etc.
Ø Conceived 5 yr. integrated MA programmes and B.Sc. Agriculture programme.
Ø Conceived major sponsored research projects like (REC-LANKA) ‘Reconstruction of War Ravaged SriLanka’ (Rs.40 crores), project (TANKRE) ‘Rejuvenation of defunct tanks and Water bodies for Recharge’ (Rs.50 lakhs) and project (PRACRITI) – ‘Impact Analysis of Sea level rise along Tamil Nadu Coasts’ (Rs.20 lakhs).
Ø Prepared documents on 35 years of achievements of GRI – DU and presented to Tondon Committee for assessment of GRI.
Ø Prepared documents and reports on the achievement of GRI-DU, invited UGC committee for the on the spot assessment of the functioning of GRI and got an appreciative report.
Ø Given total facelift to the university, prepared and submitted Self Study Reports (2002 – 2009) and invited NAAC for Reaccreditation.
Ø Prepared and published books / booklets on (1) GRU – Its Contribution to Rural India, (ii) Books published by GRI Faculty and (iii) Abstracts of Ph.D Awarded during 2002 – 2009.
Ø Providing effective leadership in putting the university in the High tech orbit of “S & T enabled rural development strategies”.

18.1 As Dean, Faculty of Science, Bharathidasan University
i Engaged in the wholistic infrastructure development of the University to meet the present needs and future challenges in higher education.
ii. Designed newer programmes and methodologies to accelerate the pace of research by various Faculty Members in Bharathidasan University.
iii. Centralised all the computer facilities in Bharathidasan University.
iv. Assisted Vice - Chancellor in all academic and research administration of the University.
v. As Convener of the committee, revised the Ph.D regulations of the university.
18.2 As Dean, Curriculum Development Council, Bharathidasan
University
i. Assisted the University in the evaluation and strengthening the existing curriculum of the University
Departments and over 100 affiliated colleges.
ii. Assisted the University in designing new curriculum.
iii. Assisted the University in non-formal education and one such is the creation of off-campus centres
in collaboration with Bhari Information Technology Systems Ltd., (BITECH).
18.3 As Dean, College Development Cell, Bharathidasan University
i. Acted as a Liaison Officer between the UGC and over 100 affiliated colleges of Bharathidasan University
ii. Done intensive exercise, conducted transparent modes of selection and brought over 180 FIP Fellowships
for the college teachers from UGC, during IX plan period, thus putting the Bharathidasan University in almost
number 1 position in the country.
iii. Engaged in motivating the college teachers for their major and minor research projects.
iv. As Coordinator of the Steering Committee of NAAC prepared part of the self study report and coordinating the whole NAAC activity.
18.4 As Convener, Informatics Centre, Bharathidasan University
i. Centralised the Internet facility and drawn up plans for improving the capacity.
ii. Drawn up master plan for networking the Internet for all the university departments for which
the fund of Rs 50 Lakhs was obtained from UGC.
18.5 As Founder Professor and Head, School of Earth Sciences
́ Built the School of Earth Sciences right from the scratch.
́ Established the satellite, aerial and topographic data bank which is vital for Earth sciences research.
́ established a good library from university grants as well as compliments from Geological Survey of India and Dept. of Space.
́ systematically builtup basic facilities by utilising university grant.
́ started M.Sc Geography and M.Phil Geography.
18.6 As founder Director, Centre for Remote Sensing
́ Built the centre right from the scratch.
́ Upgraded to the level of Centre for Advanced Studies from November 2007
́ Established the Centre for Remote Sensing exclusively through the
sponsored Research Projects.
́ conceived over 44 R&D projects and bought grant to the tune of Over Rs 5.4 Crores
from AICTE, UGC, DST, NRDMS, TNEB, World Bank, Australian Research Council etc.
and built the Centre for Remote Sensing.
́ created Excellent Satellite data visual interpretation laboratory with all visual optomechanical equipments.
́ established a good digital analysis Remote Sensing and GIS lab with over 15 computers,
advanced softwares, plotters etc.
́ established satellite and aerial data bank and cartography laboratory.
́ conceived and launched M.Tech Geological Remote Sensing and M.Sc Geoinformatics course .
́ promoted Doctoral research and so far nearly 12 Ph.Ds have been produced in 10 years, 18 Ph.Ds are in progress.
18.7 As Syndicate Member, Bharathidasan University involved in the holistic policy planning of the University
́ Acted as one of the Members of the Committee constituted to look after the functions of the Vice-Chancellor.
́ Acted as Convenor for the Equal Pay Committee for Non-teaching staff.
́ Acted as Convenor to evaluate the functions of the autonomous Colleges of Bharathidasan University.
́ Acted as Member in the Inspection Committee for monitoring the School of Engineering and Technology of Bharathidasan University.
́ Acted as Convenor, framed the Ph.D. Regulations of Bharathidasan University.
18.8 As Vice-Chancellor, Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed University, Dindigul
́ Evolved a major concept of re-organising the academic departments into schools – departments – centres
́ Evolved plans for creating new centres like Centre for Climate Change, Centre for Applied Geology etc.
́ Conceived major research projects viz. 1) REC-Lanka (Reconstruction of War ravaged Sri Lanka – 40 crores) 2) Project RUWA (Rural Water Management – 6 crores) 3) Sea Level Rise – 20 lakhs etc.
́ Created Sponsored and Action Research Cell (SPARC) and COSREC (Corporate Social Responsibility Cell)
́ Documented 35 years of “Activities and Achievements of GRI” submitted to Tandon Committee and arranged UGC Committee visit for On the Spot Assessment of GRI.
́ Prepared document and given total face lift to the university and arranged “NAAC visit for re-accreditation”.
́ Made GRI as “Knowledge partner in Natural disaster Management programmes of AIT” Thailand.
́ Delivered over 10 invited lectures on Remote Sensing
́ Evolved new concept of “Popular Lecture Series” to carry the research findings of GRI to colleges and other research institutions.
́ Established IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) and made it functioning.
́ Got Re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade
