Profile

The Department of Chemistry, established in the year 1965, offers B.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Chemistry and Ph.D. Programmes. Under NEP, from the year 2024-25, a 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) programme is offered. The Department undertakes funded research projects in major areas of chemistry from all leading funding agencies. The faculty members of the department have published over 1100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, with an h-index of 85 and citations of about 30,423. So far, 169 scholars have been awarded doctoral degrees from the department. The Department is supported by DST-FIST and UGC-SAP. Very recently, the Department of Chemistry has been granted Rs. 2.2 Crore by the DST-FIST Level B in 2024.The Department also carries out extension activities like Defluoridation, Science Teaching, Tree Plantation, etc., Alumni of the Department occupy pivotal positions in industries/institutions both in inland/abroad. The Department has excellent instrumental facilities, including FT-NMR and HR-MS. The Department Library is managed by the students. Resonance is the Chemistry Fest organised by the students of the Department.
