Composition of the Executive Council:

1. Vice-Chancellor Chairperson
2. Pro-Vice Chancellor Member
3. Addl. Secretary / Joint Secretary of MoE looking after the affairs of deemed to be universities or his/her representative Member
4. Up to four nominees of Sponsoring body Member
5. Two members from amongst the Deans of Schools of studies, by rotation, to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor Member
6. One Professor, who is not a Dean, by rotation, to be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor Member
7. One Associate Professor, by rotation, to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor Member
8. One Assistant Professor, by rotation, to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor Member
9. Registrar Ex-Officio Secretary

Tenure of the Members of the Executive Council:

  1. All the members of the Executive Council, other than the Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor, shall hold office for a term of three years.
  2. In the case of Deans, the term shall be three years or until they hold the office of Dean, whichever is earlier.
  3. Members of the Executive Council appointed by the Vice-Chancellor from Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor Category shall hold office for a period of one year or till such time they cease to be teachers of the Institute, whichever is earlier. Any vacancy caused by resignation or inability of the member to discharge his or her duties will be filled by the Vice-Chancellor.

Powers and Limitations of the Executive Council:

  1. The Executive Council shall have the power of management and administration of the Institute.
  2. The Executive Council shall be the final decision-making body of the Institute in respect of every matter of the Institute, including in the academic, administrative, personnel, financial, developmental matters.
  3. Subject to the provisions of the regulations and the rules of the Institute, the Executive Council shall, in addition to all other powers vested in it, have the following powers, namely:
    1. to appoint such Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and other academic staff, including Chairs, as may be necessary, on the recommendation of the Selection Committee constituted for the said purpose and to fill up temporary vacancies therein;
    2. to regulate and enforce discipline amongst the employees of the Institute in accordance with the rules of the Institute;
    3. to provide for the appointment of Visiting Professors, Emeritus Professors, Professor of Practice, Consultants, Scholars, etc., and determine the terms and conditions of such appointments;
    4. to exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed on it by the rules and regulations of the Institute;
    5. to make rules and regulations for the Institute; and
    6. to create posts with prior approval of the Central Government.

Termination of Membership of the Executive Council:

If a member other than the Vice-Chancellor and those representing the teacher accepts full-time employment in the Institute or not attending three consecutive meetings of the EC without proper leave of absence, in that case, he/she will cease to be a member of the EC.
