Profile


  • Malayalam as a language has been taught to students of the Gandhigram Rural Institute since its inception.
  • In the beginning, Malayalam language was taught under Part - I course to under graduate students besides offering Certificate programme in Functional Malayalam to the staff, students and also others.
  • Since the introduction of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), basic Malayalam has been offered as one of the Non - Major Electives to the post-graduate students across the Schools/ Departments.
  • Duly considering the significance of Malayalam language, a separate entity namely Centre for Malayalam Studies (CMS) was established in October 2017 under the School of Tamil, Indian Languages & Rural Arts.
